The relaxation of planning laws has allowed developers to build micro flats if they are converting offices into homes.

In the north-west London suburb of Mill Hill, @White comprises seven industrial-style one-bedroom homes, each 350sq ft with white or sandblasted-glass walls, exposed steel ceilings, galvanised sockets and trunking, and timber and concrete flooring.

The flats have digital door locks and doorbells linked to an app so you can see who is visiting.

Furnished and ready to move into, these homes come complete with a black-and-white leather bed, black leather and chrome sofa, dining table and chairs, linen, towels, cutlery, crockery and wall-mounted television.

The clinical, monochrome look will mostly appeal to design purists who prefer functional glamour. Prices start at £275,000. Call estate agent Statons on 020 8441 9555.

Developer Apt Living is another micro flat developer. Its homes have no wide hallways or free-standing baths, instead featuring 10ft-high ceilings, smart storage and good views.

At its Kew Bridge project, sleek Scandi-style apartments have floor-to-ceiling glazing and internal Crittall windows that act as room dividers and allow light to flood through the property.

There is built-in bench seating with concealed storage and a bespoke desk/dresser. Radiator-free, the apartments are comfort-cooled.

Residents have use of a cinema room, roof terrace, gym, lounge and bike storage. Prices from £320,000. Call Savills (020 7409 8756).
