Harry Kane injury: The games Tottenham and England striker will miss with hamstring problem

Tottenham were hit with a huge blow on Thursday as star striker Harry Kane was ruled out until April with a hamstring problem.

Spurs’ talisman will need surgery after rupturing a tendon during the 1-0 Premier League defeat against Southampton on New Year’s Day.

Spurs’ hopes in both domestic and European competition have taken a significant hit. Kane is all-but certain to miss ten Premier League games, while even if he returns to training at the beginning of the month, the trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United on April 4 will surely come too soon.

After that fixture, Spurs will have just six league matches left to play, including potentially crucial clashes with Arsenal and Leicester in the race for the top four.

In the FA Cup, Spurs face a third round replay against Middlesbrough next week, and even if they win that, will almost definitely be without Kane until the semi-final stage should they get there.

Similarly, in the Champions League, Kane will miss both legs of the last 16 meeting with RB Leipzig, though he could return in time to play some part in a prospective quarter-final tie, with the second legs not held until mid-April.

As well as Jose Mourinho, Gareth Southgate now has cause for concern, with the England captain in a race to return to full fitness in time for Euro 2020, while any setback in his rehabilitation could put his participation in question altogether.

Whatever happens, Kane will be missing for the friendlies against Italy and Denmark in March, the final games before Southgate is due to name his squad.
