Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-1 Chelsea (6-1 on aggregate)

There have been many special Champions League nights in Chelsea's history but this will surely be a bridge too far for Lampard's squad.

Taking on arguably the favourites to win the competition is one thing. But to face a three-goal deficit without key men such as Pulisic and Azpilicueta, the task is made only more difficult.

Against a side that has consistently leaked goals all season, the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry will be licking their lips at the prospect of adding to their goal tallies. Comfortable home win.

Head to head history and results

Chelsea can take solace from their last meeting at the Allianz Arena, where the Blues famously won the Champions League in 2012 against the Bavarian giants on their own turf.

Bayern have the edge in the overall head-to-head, winning twice in the five meetings - including a 3-2 victory in the Champions League back in 2005 - although Chelsea progressed 6-5 on aggregate to reach the semi-finals.

It's the first time in 13 years that Chelsea have started with five English players in a Champions League game.

Notably, all four of them - Abraham, Mount, James and Hudson-Odoi - are aged 22 or under.

Lampard has a talented squad on his hands for next season and it's time for these English youngsters to prove they are worthy of a starting berth.

Inside the stadium, the Chelsea players have been getting a feel for the conditions.

It's likely to be a very warm evening, with temperatures hovering around 27C at present in Munich. With the drinks break not integrated into the Champions League, it could be a tough night for the players out there.

An inevitable exit?

If Chelsea fans were feeling pessimistic ahead of tonight's clash, they may not want to read these statistics we have dug out.

Photo: AFPThe west London club's last three Champions League campaigns have all ended in the round of 16 stage.  The Blues are also without a win in seven away matches in the Champions League knockout rounds (D4 L3) – losing their last two – since a 1-0 first-leg success at Benfica in the quarter-final of their victorious 2011/12 campaign.

Bayern became only the seventh team – and first from Germany – to win all six games in the group stage this season, including a 7-2 win at Tottenham in which Serge Gnabry scored four goals.

They also have an astonishing record since Hansi Flick took charge, winning 18 games in a row since a goalless draw at RB Leipzig on February 9. In fact, they haven't lost a game in any competition in 2020 - last tasting defeat in a 2-1 defeat at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Frank Lampard has had not what many people would call an "ordinary" debut season in charge of Chelsea, guiding them to a top-four finish and an FA Cup final, while having to drop his first-choice goalkeeper and losing 12 league games.

Photo: APBut it would undoubtedly be a feather in the cap if the 41-year-old could guide his young side to victory tonight, even if that means they don't go through to the quarter-finals.

Chelsea have already won in Amsterdam and Lille this season, while only a freak goal denied them victory in Valencia. Will they stun Bayern Munich by leaving Bavaria with a consolation victory too?

Robert Lewandowski tapped in a third in the 76th minute to inflict Chelsea's biggest home defeat in Uefa competition, with the Blues also losing Marcos Alonso to a late red card.

No surprises from Flick

Bayern Munich will no doubt have some rustiness to shake off after going five weeks without a competitive fixture but they have named a very strong line-up.

Hansi Flick's side overcame Marseille 1-0 in a friendly in midweek, with Serge Gnabry on the scoresheet and after utilising Joshua Kimmich as a right-back, the versatile midfielder starts there tonight.

No surprises from the German coach in terms of his line-up, with Ivan Perisic coming in for the injured Kingsley Coman.

Chelsea fans will note Philippe Coutinho's presence on the bench, having at one point looked set to join the west London outfit. There's also a spot for 17-year-old Jamal Musiala, a former Blues academy trainee.

Abraham, Christensen both start

Frank Lampard has handed top goalscorer Tammy Abraham a start ahead of Olivier Giroud for tonight's second leg.

The 22-year-old has found the net 17 times this season and despite only scoring twice in his last 10 appearances, Abraham will handed a chance to impress at the Allianz Arena.

Antonio Rudiger drops to the bench to make way for Andreas Christensen, who makes his 100th Chelsea appearance.

With captain Cesar Azpilicueta injured and deputy Jorginho suspended, midfielder N'Golo Kante will wear the armband tonight.
