Manchester United were awarded two VAR-approved penalties in the first 45 minutes against Norwich – and missed them both.

Scott McTominay gave United the lead after 21 minutes and when Daniel James was brought down by Ben Godrey five minutes later, they had the chance to double that.

Marcus Rashford saw his tame effort saved by Tim Krul – but made up for the miss four minutes later with a fine finish to make it 2-0.

Norwich were stunned when United were given another spot kick minutes before half-time - Todd Cantwell judged to have committed a handball when Fred fired a shot on goal.

Anthony Martial, who scored from 12 yards on Thursday, stepped up this time, but he too was denied by Krul.

United went in at half-time two goals to the good – the first time they have scored more than two goals in a game since the opening day of the season.

It could have been much more.
