Wimbledon is the quintessential inner suburb. Leafy and leisurely, smart and prosperous, it is the country in London, with golf courses, good schools and a vast, wonderful common that stretches to Putney Vale.

While families prefer homes in and around Wimbledon Village, young singles and couples with lower budgets head for the cheaper train station neighbourhoods of “Tennis Town”, which nonetheless offer gyms, bars, bistros and a quick commute.

Vision House is a refurbishment of an Art Deco block opposite Wimbledon Chase station.

There are 19 one- and two-bedroom apartments, quite small but with high ceilings, starting at £365,000.

Wimbledon Hill Park, a prestigious address bordering the Village and Wimbledon Common, highlights the price divide.

This 25-acre walled estate, formerly a hospital, has a mix of traditional and contemporary architectural styles.

The latest phase of apartments in classical-style mansion blocks ranges from £660,000 to £2.75 million. Call 020 3944 9061.
