It has been 13 years since Dame Helen Mirren played Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison in ITV’s blockbuster crime series, Prime Suspect.

The British actress won a Bafta for her role as the no-nonsense cop who battled to rise through the ranks of the Metropolitan Police Service over seven hit seasons.

Now, the fictional home of her character is for sale in Altrincham, near Manchester city centre.

The six-bedroom semi-detached home featured as the uncompromising DCI's house in series three, four and six of the drama.

The four-storey property is set in the heart of the leafy, peaceful Downs conservation area, protected because of the beauty and historic character of its Georgian and early Victorian architecture.

Many of the elegant home's period features have been retained, including high, corniced ceilings, decorative corbels, stained-glass features and sash windows.

Outside is a large paved patio and a timber pergola seating area, ideal for summer dining. The generous private garden is edged with mature borders and trees, retained within classic Victorian walls.

Property expert Miles Shipside, of Rightmove, said: “This is a truly charming property in its own right, but I have no doubt buyers will be even keener to view a house in which an iconic Oscar-winning actress has plied her trade.

"It’s a real treat to peek inside these sorts of homes on Rightmove, which are never in short supply.”
