Greenwich Maritime, covering the historic town centre and majestic park, is one of four Unesco World Heritage Sites in London, with the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster and Kew’s Royal Botanic Gardens.

Greenwich Peninsula, once a polluted gasworks, falls outside the coveted Unesco status but this new waterfront district — some would say too dense with an over-abundance of hard landscaping — is taking shape with thousands of new homes and lots of leisure and recreational facilities by the O2 arena.

The latest launch is Upper Riverside, one of a family of five skyscrapers designed by renowned Chicago-based architect SOM.

Each building is topped by a stepped glass prism angled towards the river and the latest tower includes one of London’s highest spas, with a swimming pool and steam room, gyms and roof garden for outdoor exercise and dining.
