Pimlico bears more than a superficial resemblance to Belgravia.

Having completed Eaton Square and Belgrave Square in the 1820s and 1830s, Thomas Cubitt, London’s most prolific master builder of the time, turned his attention to the neighbouring district of Pimlico, or “South Belgravia” as he called it.

Cubitt continued with his Italian-inspired style of white stucco-fronted houses, fine internal decorative plasterwork and introduced his “Pimlico Porch” design, a Doric portico with the addition of a balcony atop.

Warwick Square was at the heart of Cubitt’s masterplan.

The splendid gardens were designed to “let a little of the countryside into the town”, and today it is one of only two private garden squares in Pimlico, St George’s Square being the other.

Number 66 Warwick Square was Cubitt’s home and office during these years, and in a delightful denouement, the grand townhouse has been sensitively converted into five lateral apartments with parquet flooring throughout, impressive volume and “smart home” technology.
