There is no trace of the grim former Ferrier council estate in Greenwich.

The concrete tower blocks and houses have been bulldozed to make way for Kidbrooke Village, a “new garden suburb”, with shops, two schools, GP surgery, dentist and pharmacy.

There's also a new station offering a 16-minute commute to London Bridge.

It is a surprisingly green setting, bordered by Sutcliffe Park which has a lake and wetlands, while newly landscaped areas across the 276-acre neighbourhood form a series of “outdoor rooms”. More than 1,500 of 4,800 planned homes have been built.

Agora Court, Kidbrooke Village: one-bedroom flats from £355,000

Good-looking apartment blocks and terrace townhouses overlook this green expanse. Properties are a step up for the area, with smart, space-efficient interiors.

Birch House is the latest phase, an elegant high-rise that extends the green theme skywards.

“With tree-lined paths radiating out from newly created Cator Park, we decided to extend the park up the building,” says Christophe Egret of architects Studio Egret West.

The tower is a series of interlocking blocks with private open-air terraces and a communal sky lounge. Two-bedroom flats start at £567,000, rising to £1,045,000 for a three-bedroom duplex with balcony and terrace.

One-bedroom flats at Agora Court, an earlier phase, cost from £355,000. Call 020 8150 5151.
