Boosted by the reduced commute time to central London, Canterbury’s tail is up.

The charming cathedral city used to be considered outside the commuter belt but the journey has been slashed from 102 minutes to under an hour, which combined with good-value property has turned the place into a hotspot.

New homes are going up within the ancient walls as well as on greenfield sites ringing the centre.

Canterbury prices are about 20 per cent cheaper than Kent commuter towns like Tunbridge Wells.

Polo Field, pictured, is a scheme of 18 detached houses in large plots built in traditional Kentish style with reclaimed materials. Prices from £765,000.

Some houses have a separate garage and studio/office. Call Millwood Designer Homes on 01227 490227.
