Air pollution concerns, highlighted by London’s new Ultra-Low Emission Zone, and the prospect of cars being banned near schools are beginning to influence parents’ choice of homes.

Usman Khan, founder of a fintech company, wanted to be within walking distance of good schools for his four children, who span primary and secondary school ages.

He opted for London Square Chigwell Village in Essex, a gated scheme of 43 houses within the catchment of four noted schools as well as a Central line Tube station that is handy for his commute to work.

“The children will be able to walk to school. Avoiding unnecessary car journeys is a priority for us, for exercise and to promote clean air and reduce allergies.” Nearby Epping Forest is a giant green lung, he adds.
