A Belgravia mansion that was one of London’s most glamorous entertaining salons of the Sixties is for sale with a price tag of almost £20 million.

The five-bedroom late Regency residence on Wilton Crescent was leased by the Duke of Edinburgh’s uncle, Lord Mountbatten, who lived in the house next door.

It was used as a space for lavish parties where guests included playwright Noël Coward, Hollywood star Douglas Fairbanks Jr, and novelist Dame Barbara Cartland.

Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, used his home at 2 Wilton Crescent as his London base from 1959 to 1968, when he retired to his country seat in Hampshire.

The next-door property was used for storing antiques as well as for entertaining.

It is on the market for the first time in more than 30 years with Dexters, priced at £19.5 million.

Percy Lendrum, of Dexters, said: “The historic property has had a number of notable residents over the years, and has original features beautifully preserved.”
