Waterside living: huge regeneration in Brentford is bringing hundreds of new canalside homes to west London

With fast road links and the regeneration of its high street, Brentford's fortunes are rising.

A west London spot that has been 'up and coming' for more than 20 years without really making a mark, Brentford’s fortunes are rising at last with a wave of regeneration transforming the tired high street and opening up the waterfront.

Even the local football club is in on the act, building a new stadium complex that includes 648 new homes.

While fast road links to Heathrow and a lovely Georgian quarter called The Butts are a draw for some buyers, Brentford’s main allure is its position at the confluence of the Thames, the River Brent and Grand Union Canal. New projects are focusing on waterside living.

With 700 homes, Brentford Lock West is part of an 11-acre canalside scheme. One of the development partners is Canal and River Trust, which invests half of profits back into British waterways.

Commercial and leisure space, new moorings, pontoons and a footbridge have been created, the towpath widened and art deco warehouses refurbished.

This section of the canal is now used by a local canoe and kayaking club, while Active360 runs stand-up paddleboarding sessions directly in front of the development.

Three-bedroom flats at Chalico Walk, one of the waterside blocks, start at £679,950.

New four-bedroom townhouses with terraces and two parking spaces cost from £925,000. Call 020 3504 6403.
