The home which was the inspiration for the original Goldilocks story, The Story of the Three Bears, is for sale.

Burton Cottage in Dorset belonged to poet laureate Robert Southey who penned the children's literary classic while living in the Grade II-listed property.

It was built around 300 years ago but the thatched cottage has recently had a bespoke interior design to give it a modern facelift.

There are four bedrooms including a fabulous master suite with views over the gardens, a lovely en-suite and dressing area. There is also a second dressing room with a walk-in wardrobe, a spacious study and a cosy lounge with a wood burner and fireplace.

The gardens are secluded on all sides and there is a smart decking space, a separate patio and courtyard providing an ideal sun trap.

This fairytale home is on Palmer Snell's books for £1.15 million.
