Londoners are surrounded by cool, quirky designer hotspots across the capital, from restaurants to cute interiors shops and hipster cafés.

Now, Bateman Street in Soho is getting in on the action with a design-led hair and beauty bar, where booths are set around spectacular Corian firepits and clients can sip champagne to their hearts' content.

Opening on October 25, Salon 64 will serve up hair styling and beauty treatments in one beautifully - and thoughtfully - designed spot. Forget doing your make-up al desko before you leave the office; now you can head to a manicured, calm space in the midst of one of London's buzziest neighbourhoods to get your glam on, have a blow dry, charge your phone and meet up with friends.

Steal the style: hanging brass pendants over the stairs and downstairs cocktail bar make for a cool, contemporary touch

"The London crowd craves experiences and places that work with their lifestyles rather than against it," says Salon 64's owner and creative director Ricky Walters who, aged 26, has been in the industry for 10 years, counting Daniel Galvin at The Corinthia among past employers and film stars among former clients.

Designed by the award-winning architects and interiors experts JaK Studio, the new salon is arranged over two floors, with a make-up bar at the entrance that has phone charging docks and jewellery boxes hidden inside sleek, white table tops.

"During one of our first conversations, Ricky pointed out that one of the most common things to happen in a hair salon, especially for women, is losing their jewellery," says Jak Studio's project architect Ricardo Alba Gonzalez. And so, the idea of the personal station, with suede-lined jewellery box, charging dock and plenty of space for a champagne glass and the hairdresser's tools, came about.

Innovative space: the salon has been designed with both client and hairdresser in mind, with jewellery boxes, space for glasses and charging docks

Another design highlight is the lighting. Three hammered brass pendants by Original BTC hang over the stairs, and over the cocktail bar, which adds the wow-factor to this statement entrance.

As well as different lighting options in the washrooms, which allow the hairdresser to check hair tones under both white and yellow lights, there's also a personal dimmer switch contained in each of the jewellery boxes so clients can change the light around them independent of the salon lighting.

"Salon 64 has all the functionality of a traditional salon, but with enhanced improvements through the design," says Walters. "A fire as a centre piece is much more eye-catching, relaxing and comforting than having clients staring at their foil-covered reflections in a mirror."
