Football fans seeking to recreate sporting glories can have a kick about on the expansive lawns of the former home of John Terry, ex-England captain and ex-Chelsea footballer.

The sprawling six-bedroom Surrey mansion, which is currently on the market at £6.25 million, was previously owned by the five-time Premier League winner.

Also a keen golfer, Terry installed a small Astro Turf pitch and putting green to the side of the house to indulge in his other sporting passion.

In addition to the one acre of landscaped gardens, there's a swimming pool, sauna and gym. There's also a games room and cinema for when you want to relax after working out.

Measuring up at just under 11,000 square feet, the house is spread over three floors with four bedroom suites in the main building, plus a further two bedrooms and shower room in the guest/staff wing above the triple garage.

The entrance hall gives way to a drawing room, study, family room, dining room, playroom and kitchen/breakfast room which opens to a full-width terrace.

The property, which has been recently refurbished and styled by celebrity interior designer Louise Bradley, is down a private road on the prestigious Crown Estate – home to some of Surrey’s most exclusive addresses.

Most notable, perhaps, is the vast white nine-bedroom mansion next door which was built by the Terrys.

The former England captain was intending to move into the dream property — a vast home with indoor swimming pool and staff quarters — with his wife Toni and their twins.

Reports say he decided to sell a few years ago, when he received an offer for £16 million from General Sultan bin Mohammed al-Naamani, a senior minister in Oman. General Al-Naamani is thought to have been acting for Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

Although it had many custom features for the family, including a fishing lake in the garden, the Terrys decided to relocate to another suitably glamorous home nearby.

Wychwood House is well-equipped with the latest security features. The private six-bedroom home can only be accessed via electrically operated wooden gates, which open onto a sweeping driveway.

Rightmove property expert Miles Shipside said: “This is a remarkably luxurious property which has been beautifully refurbished inside. It’s easy to see why a Premier League footballer would have felt at home here.

“The house ticks all the boxes when it comes to living a millionaire lifestyle and I’m sure this home will make a family very happy.”

Sadly, a Premiership salary is not included. The property is listed for sale with Savills.
