The buyer of Grade II-listed Colesgrove Manor in Hertfordshire will be joining a list of owners dating back almost 400 years.

Built in 1629, the manor was once home to Richard Cromwell, who became the second Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1658. However, Richard renounced power after just nine months.

Fast forward to more recent times and Colesgrove was home to novelist and historical biographer Doris Leslie (1891-1982), before the surgeon to post-war Labour prime minister Clement Attlee moved in.

Set in three-and-a-half acres of beautiful gardens and grounds, the magnificent trees and shrubbery add to the splendour of the surroundings.

There is a heated tiled swimming pool which would make for a fabulous summer party setting.

The main house is surrounded with a York stone-paved terrace and approached via a sweeping driveway with a fountain.

The current owners have done a grand job of renovating the property, creating an elegant seven-bedroom family base with the principal rooms interconnecting and joining to the reception hall.

There is also a two-bedroom lodge house in the grounds.
