The 200th anniversary of the Cato Street Conspiracy of 1820, which involved a plot by London radicals to murder the prime minister of the day, Lord Liverpool, along with his entire Cabinet, is coming up next month on Sunday, February 23.

Cato Street, near Marble Arch in W1, the conspirators’ meeting place, was then a stables with a hayloft.

The plotters fell into a police trap but an officer died as they were seized.

That May, five of the men were transported and five, charged with high treason, were hanged.

These days 1 Cato Street is a lovely mews house with a blue plaque commemorating the event.

The Grade II-listed house with two bedrooms, a cellar and a roof terrace, is now for sale through York Estates for £1,395,000.

History buffs interested in buying could head there for the anniversary when actors in period dress will take the street back to the 19th century with a vintage horse-drawn tram offering rides and, at the nearby Duke of York pub in Harrowby Street, Marylebone, David Benson will perform a one-man play about the conspirators and their fate.
