The modest red-brick bungalow is almost a second home to members of a certain generation of Neighbours fans and now Karl and Susan Kennedy’s Ramsay Street house is up for sale for the first time in 41 years.

The four-bedroom property on a cul-de-sac in the Vermont South district of Melbourne – Pin Oak Court in real life – has featured in the Aussie soap since it first aired in 1985.

Now a lucky buyer has “a rare opportunity to stake your claim in Australia's long-running soap opera” as the house is up for auction, having been in the same ownership since 1978.

Described by the estate agent as one of Ramsay Street’s “most iconic homes”, in Neighbours it was originally owned by Des and Daphne Clarke who took in Mike Young, played by a young Guy Pearce.

But Number 28 found its true place in viewers’ hearts when the Kennedy family moved in during 1995.

Karl and Susan have lived there ever since, first with their three children, Mal, Libby and Billy and then, together or apart, with a rolling cast of characters.

The house is, of course, also a fixture on Neighbours tours of Melbourne. Buyers are now invited to “add your surname to the honour roll of the Kennedys, Kinskis and Kellys from this television famous showcase of family living.”

At the top of the street, the bungalow is surrounded by gardens, including a dedicated space for the quintessential Aussie barbie, plus a water feature and a rose garden.

The interior layout is bedrooms on one side, living space on the other, including an open-plan kitchen/dining/informal sitting room and a separate large living room offering “magnificent views across the internationally renowned cul-de-sac”.

One bedroom leads directly out to the deck, while the master bedroom has an en suite bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. There is also parking for two cars under the house.

The auction will take place on Sunday, December 8 at 11am through Harcourts.
