It was a whirlwind start to the year for celebrities buying and selling new homes across the globe, even before coronavirus stalled “live” property viewings.

From spectacular mega mansions, to chic city townhouses and grand country estates, we take a look inside some of the world's most extraordinary home sales so far this year.

Harry loves Hampstead

Harry Styles paid just over £4 million for a third house in the north London enclave where he has already spent more than £11 million.

The singer-songwriter, actor and model, now 26, bought his first home in Hampstead when he was 18 and has since followed this up with a further two properties in the area.

Keeping up with the Kardashians

Kylie Jenner, the world’s youngest billionaire at just 22, was able to knock £7 million off the price of her latest buy, paying £36.2 million for a mansion in LA's fancy Holmby Hills.

The beauty entrepreneur and star of reality TV’s Keeping up with the Kardashians ensured the property offered all her must-haves, including a cinema, a bar, a games room and a gym.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's minimalist Californian estate

Sister Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West, meanwhile, have been busy working on their own Californian estate.

The celebrity power couple kept fans waiting for their latest home transformation - the renovation of their mega mansion in Hidden Hills, which they bought back in 2014.

Kimye's updated home, which they completed in partnership with Belgian interior designer Axel Vervoordt, now has a minimalist, neutral décor and features a dramatic hallway and "theatre" room with great lighting for selfies.

Moving up in Manhattan

Some celebrities wanting to stay put but still expand on space have snapped up a second, third - or even fourth - apartment in the same building.

Last month, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos bought a three-bedroom penthouse on New York's Fifth Avenue, above a triplex and two apartments he owns on the level below.

The world's richest man has now spent a total of £77.1 million on property in the Manhattan skyscraper.

Celebrity couple ChrissyTeigen and John Legend have bought a second New York penthouse

Singer-songwriter John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen have also increased their New York living space, buying a second penthouse in the block where they already own a three-bedroom, similarly luxurious home.

The couple paid £6.2 million for their new property, in the Nolita district.

In the city’s Upper West Side, Les Misérables and Princess Diaries star Anne Hathaway and her actor-producer husband, Adam Shulman, put their penthouse on the market in March.

The couple are seeking £2.6 million for the apartment, just a stone’s throw from Central Park.

In one of the most sought-after streets in Los Angeles, known as Billionaires Row, the plot has breathtaking city and ocean views.

Broker Jason Oppenheim, who stars in the hit Netflix property show Selling Sunset, has the spectacular four-bedroom residence on his books for £6.2 million.

Love Island stars' lockdown loan

Making a temporary move in order to help others during coronavirus lockdown, Love Island's Luke Mabbott has offered up his Yorkshire home rent-free to NHS workers while he stays at his brother's house nearby.

Screen stars

Notable TV locations for sale this year include Hornsey Town Hall, which doubled as a Russian hotel in the BBC's Killing Eve.

Interior shots of the show's fictional Moscow hotel were filmed here, including in the lobby, bar and restaurant.

The modernist building is currently being restored and redeveloped into new homes, a hotel, rooftop bar and arts space.

In Islington, budding chefs might like to snap up a piece of TV history - the warehouse property where Jamie Oliver slid down the banister to film The Naked Chef is on the market.

At £1.75 million, this spectacular home has two terraces and large windows, with plenty of light for any prospective owners.
