Looking for a distinctive way to express your interiors style?

Consider investing in a stunning contemporary wall feature and let the rest of your home bask in its glory.

Hand-painted murals

A striking ensemble of female faces brings an alluring intimacy to the Snug in the glamorous new bar at The Berkeley five-star hotel in Knightsbridge.

This collaboration between the bar’s interior designer Bryan O’Sullivan and New York-based artist T.M. Davy echoes the uplifting, yet restful, colours of the room’s fabrics.

“Traditionally a snug was used by women while men drank in the main bar,” says O’Sullivan. “Our 21st-century version is the opposite — a sought-after space that’s feminine, chic and fun.”

Similar commissions start from £200 per square metre.

Decorative crystal

Bespoke Hirondelles hand-painted wallcovering is finely embroidered to include Lalique crystal swallows and dahlias in a pattern created by René Lalique in 1931.

Wallcovering from £630 a square metre; dahlias from £408; swallows from £708.

Collaborating with artist Damien Hirst, Lalique crystal panels — Love, Beauty, Hope — depict a single butterfly in a choice of 12 colours.

Integrate into an existing wall or display as a framed, wall-hung artwork.

From £13,500, each panel is signed by the artist, numbered and in a limited edition of 50.

Luxurious wallcoverings

Bespoke studio Fromental is fast becoming the go-to source for the very best luxury wallcoverings — Kate Moss herself has even included their designs in her home.

Hand-painted and embroidered on silk, these beautiful designs turn dull walls into eye-catchers and make the perfect feature.

Many designs, such as Paradiso Blue Light (priced from £884 per square metre), and Sylvaner Burnish (priced from £652 per square metre) are inspired by 18th-century chinoiserie while others, like Los Alamos (from £618 per square metre) offer a contemporary, graphic look.

Stained glass in the home

Commission a contemporary stained-glass panel as artist Leigh Glover did for an interior window in his Cotswolds home, “a perfect solution for screening the dining room from a hallway while letting light stream through colourfully”, says Glover.

Natalia Miyar's hand-painted large-scale abstract prints

"My previous studio was next door to Oksana Kondratyeva, in London. I love her bold, colourful patterns and clever acid-etching techniques.

Her stunning design is inspired by the architectural features of the house. It’s a huge talking-point with visitors.”

Similar commissions from £10,000.

Live large

Texture adds interest, as in interior designer Natalia Miyar’s VIP dining room for the Masterpiece London 2019 art exhibition.

Collaborating with UK wallcoverings studio, Fromental, the jewel-like tones of Miyar’s large-scale abstract pattern owe their vibrancy to a specialist cracked-eggshell inlay.

The vivid, hand-painted colours bring, she says, “a sense of the tropics to London in a creative and playful way”. From £429 a square metre.

The gallery/library look

A collaboration between The National Gallery and Andrew Martin will reproduce any painting from the gallery's permanent collection

Fancy displaying your favourite painting big and bold? A collaboration between The National Gallery and design-led British retailer, Andrew Martin, lets you do just that.

Any painting in the gallery’s permanent collection can be digitally reproduced under licence by Andrew Martin from £140 per square metre.

Further designs in Andrew Martin’s own collection include a first editions Library, £143 for two 10-metre rolls and a Gallery of framed Renaissance portraits, £278 for three 10m rolls.

Leather concepts

Create intriguing patterns, surface textures and optical effects with a glamorous leather wall.

Italian leather specialist Studioart draws on its long-established tannery origins to combine craftsmanship and top-quality materials with contemporary designs.

Pattern, finish and colour are all customisable for site-specific locations. Prices start from £890 per square metre.

The design pictured above is called Onda, priced £1,144 per square metre.

Art deco beauty

Bring a touch of true Art Deco glamour to your home with a gorgeous figurative crystal panel from French masters Lalique.

The design for this contemporary bespoke clear crystal panel, titled Femme Tête Levée, uses geometric and floral forms so typical of the period and was originally created by René Lalique for the Orient Express presidential suite in 1928.

Handcrafted in France, it measures approximately 18ins by 6ins and is priced £2,487.

Lalique panels start from £300.
