Shortlisted entries for this year's London Home Design Awards include a bathroom carved out of a hard-to-access loft in South Woodford; a renter's overhaul of their Stockwell living room; and a small Islington kitchen with a cleverly added table.

We asked Londoners to share their home makeover projects in five categories: the garden, bedroom, living room, bathroom and kitchen.

We had the tricky task of whittling down the outstandingly creative entries to a shortlist of just 25 rooms (see gallery above).

Next, our panel of judges met on Monday 18 June in the luxurious Lecture Room & Library at Sketch to determine the winners of each category.

The judges

The main panel includes the editors of Homes & Property and Houzz, Janice Morley and Victoria Harrison; design journalist Barbara Chandler; Daniel Hopwood, former president of the British Institute of Interior Design; and Richard MacRae of architecture design studio EDRM.

Our guest judges include celebrity food writer Rachel Khoo; Mad About The House author Kate Watson-Smyth; interior design duo Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead of 2LG Studio; the founder of Mr & Mrs Smith hotels Tamara Lohan; and founder of The Balcony Gardener Isabelle Palmer.

The prizes

One winner per category will be picked by our expert panel and guest judge to win a £500 Houzz Shop voucher to spend on Bang & Olufsen products and a £250 voucher to spend on Tom Dixon products, also in the Houzz Shop.

Plus, we'll be sending the winners to a lamp-making workshop at The Factory in Tom Dixon's new flagship store, worth £250.

Each of the winning projects will be featured on Houzz and in the Evening Standard's Homes & Property section on Wednesday 4 July.
