Which one gets your vote? the shortlist for Shed of the Year 2018 features a converted London cab and a 'boat pod'

A converted black cab, an upturned fishing boat, an Irish pub and a Tudor playhouse are among the brilliantly bonkers buildings doing battle to be named Shed of the Year 2018.

Nearly 3,000 shed aficionados entered their garden retreats into the annual competition, but just 24 have made the newly-announced shortlist.

Nominees have been split into eight categories: pub/entertainment, eco, cabin, unique, workshops, budget, historic and... unexpected.

The budget category proves entrants don't need to break the bank with shortlisted entries including a Tudor playhouse and beautifully-designed yurt, both built for under £500.

The public are invited to vote for their favourite entry in each category here. Once the voting closes at 9am on 28 August, the category winners will be reviewed by a judging panel.

The winner, revealed in September, will receive a plaque, a giant crown and £100-worth of woodwork products from the contest’s sponsor, Cuprinol.

Shed of the Year founder Andrew Wilcox said judges had been “blown away” by this year’s submissions.

He said: “I’ve judged the finalists eleven years running now, and it’s amazing to see how the sheds evolve each year as entrants take inspiration from others and realise that creating your own shed on a budget is a more than achievable project.

“I will be very interested to see who comes out on top following the public vote. It is going to be a near-on impossible task deciding who will take top honour as the Curpinol Shed of the Year 2018, I love all 24 sheds.”

Last year’s winner was The Mushroom Shed, built by Ben Swanborough for his 12-year-old daughter after she asked him to build her a house in the shape of a mushroom.
