The most recent season of the Great British Bake Off was a roaring success last autumn, despite the controversial move from the BBC to Channel 4 and the absence of national treasure Mary Berry.

This year, funny man Noel Fielding, food connoisseur Prue Leith and entertainer Sandi Toksvig are once again joined by old hand Paul Hollywood, as the nation's best bakers are put through their paces.

Among the changes revealed so far, the show is introducing a 'vegan week' for the first time and some of the more complicated challenges have been cut in order for the contestants to go 'back to basics'.

With the show set to return later this summer, it's time to get into the kitchen to rustle up your own baking masterpiece.

First of all, all star bakers need a stand mixer, which is an invaluable piece of kit when making fragile meringues or tricky tortes, but they can also be expensive.

This baby pink stand mixer from Vonshef, priced at £74.99, is perfect for amateur bakers who are unsure if they want to invest in a more expensive brand.

Space-saving measuring cups, £7.50, and ruler guide chopping board, £20, help to ensure precision and minimise the chance of a baking fail.

Presentation is key to becoming a star baker. After all, it's a given that all your creative successes must be posted on social media.

This luxe quartz-topped kitchen island from West Elm, £999, is a great insta-worthy backdrop for the all important 'cake flatlay'.

It's stain-resistant too, so there's not need to worry about sticky fingers from taste testers.
