Geometric prints provide the perfect balance between modern and vintage, with a nod to Art Deco styling here, mixed with a futuristic bold touch there.

Even better, geometrics can be used to add interest to a minimalist interior — think Scandi-inspired furniture — or to add an Op Art-style maximalist statement, depending on your home decor bent.

Geometric styles help to create a vibrant, dynamic look in the home and it’s a design trend that we’re seeing become increasingly popular within the Houzz community," says Victoria Harrison, editor of home renovation and design platform Houzz.co.uk.

"Our users have not only been searching for geometric inspiration more frequently over the past year, but have also been incorporating lively geometrics into their interiors."

While geometrics have an enduring appeal, Harrison pinpoints three key ways people are embracing the trend in 2018.

"We’re noticing hexagonal-shaped tiles in particular on the rise, along with clever colour-blocking techniques which use masking tape to create fun architectural shapes.

"Home accessories combining geometric patterns with the trend for black edges are a popular way that Houzzers are experimenting with Art Deco glamour."

Made from 100 per cent pure wool, this navy and white rug from Le Redoute, above, will look great complemented by neutral living room furniture to help bring out the bold pattern.

Vinyl stick-on coloured triangles from Not On The High Street, can be used to make any pattern. Suitable for interior use on walls or windows, they're designed not to leave any residue behind.

Alternatively, if you're not looking for a big commitment then you can bring extra dimensions to your bedding with this reversible patterned duvet set, from George at ASDA. At just £14 it's a great way to stay on-trend without blowing the budget.
