This is the summer of the big homeware sale.

Brands are slashing prices to unload merchandise that has been sitting in shops and warehouses for months.

Andrew Martin, the go-to fashionable store in Walton Street has added an extra pop-up at 60 Sloane Avenue, SW3, with reductions of up to 70 per cent (020 7225 5100).

The Futon Company, which supplies furniture idea for small spaces, has 60 per cent off stock in all branches.

Half-price or even 70 per cent off is the new normal, even at John Lewis, usually more cautious.

The group’s Peter Jones in Sloane Square, SW1, has reopened, as will John Lewis in Oxford Street on July 16. Visit johnlewis.com for details of special buys and price cuts.

Harrods has opened over two floors in the space left by Debenhams at Westfield, W12, where bargain homewares include linens, tablewear and accessories.

Harrods says this is a concept store, not an outlet and has been designed for safe shopping, rather than modified. Customers are requested to “browse with your eyes”. The furniture sale remains in Knightsbridge, SW1.

Meanwhile, House of Fraser has bargain classic white bed linen and china.

Take advantage of the bargains to give your home a new summer look — we need a refresh after looking at the same things for three locked-down months.

Cushions and throws are half price everywhere. Plug in a lamp to lift a gloomy corner, then add some new prints and lightweight summer voile curtains.

Buy colourful glasses for the kitchen and a picnic cloth for inside and out.

Change the sofa at Sofa.com with half price on selected fabrics and 20 per cent off all velvets until Monday — showrooms in Chelsea, Islington and Bankside.

Sofa Workshop has an ongoing clear-out, advising: “Keep checking for overstocks and clearance.” Open in Tottenham Court Road, W1 and three other London stores.

Prices are cut dramatically at MADE.com — online only for now.

Go for quality fittings while they are cheap.

Top bathroom store CP Hart, with the flagship in Waterloo, has 40 per cent off elegant own-brand fittings, including around £800 off the popular Winchester traditional free-standing bath, now £1,084.

Bargain hunting: get around £800 off the Winchester free-standing bath at CP Hart (now priced £1,084)

Get 25 per cent off handmade British kitchens at Harvey Jones in Battersea, Fulham, Hampstead, Islington and Sheen.

Yew Tree Designs, based in Sussex, has up to 30 per cent off hand-painted kitchens.

Used Kitchen Exchange has seasonal deals on “repurposed” and ex-display kitchens already hugely reduced.

Some stores are discounting all top brands. Find 20 per cent off Tom Dixon and 25 per cent off Vispring at Heal’s, plus year-round bargains at the outlet in Chiswick High Road, W4.

Chaplins has designer half-price outdoor furniture, lighting and kitchens for garden or patio, plus 20 per cent off 180 luscious labels (by appointment, 477-507 Uxbridge Rd, Pinner HA5).

Fleur chest of drawers, now £275, at Habitat

Ligne Roset in Mortimer Street, W1, has up to 20 per cent off cabinets and 15 per cent off upholstery.

Niche UK designers doing deals include weaver Margo Selby and Italian-inspired artist/printer Susi Bellamy.

Check it all out with a new “virtual” advice session at, for example, The Conran Shop, Andrew Martin and Heal’s.

Or book an appointment in store at, say, SCP, where all new orders are 20 per cent off and ex-display upholstery has hardly been touched (135-139 Curtain Road, EC2).

Ferret out more hardly touched ex-display and clearance at many stores and online.

Be cheeky, says Money Saving Expert, and ask for a bit more off.
