Eccentric tech millionaire John McAfee was arrested in Spain in the early hours today on US charges of evading tax.

The American, who was born on a US Army base in Gloucestershire and who founded anti-virus software company McAfee, allegedly failed to report millions earned from promoting cryptocurrencies and speaking engagements.

Allegedly he promoted seven unnamed ICOs (initial coin offerings) on Twitter making more than £18 million - but failed to disclose the pay.

He was charged by the US Department in June but the indictment was only unsealed after his arrest.

He faces extradition to the US and up to 30 years in prison.
