My design London: Natasha Law

Artist Natasha Law, 41, sister of actor Jude Law, is best known for her inky line drawings. She has just launched a nationwide hunt for the most exciting undiscovered art talent in Britain. By Katie Law

Where I live

I live in Peckham with my partner, Fintan, a comedy scriptwriter, and our daughters Edie, 11, Ondine, seven, and our son Marlowe, six. We have really lovely neighbours, most of whom have lived here for years, and my kids have all gone to the local school where we've met parents who have become good friends.

The area is a perfect London mix of urban concrete and high street, the occasional gentrified leafy stretch, and cafés serving flat whites.

We're halfway between Peckham Rye and Goose Green, so have two great places to head to for some fresh air, and there's a renovated Thirties swimming pool just down the road.

Frank's Café and Campari Bar
Frank's Café and Campari Bar on the roof of the Peckham multi-storey car park - the bar is designed by Paloma Gormley

Favourite piece of home memorabilia

We have a mirror that used to be in one of the bathrooms of the Goose Green swimming baths. When the building was closed down for renovation lots of stuff got thrown out. Fintan was passing on his bike when he spotted one of these mirrors in a skip outside and managed to get it home — a feat in itself.

My favourite café

Frank's Café and Campari Bar on the roof of the Peckham multi-storey car park is linked with the Bold Tendencies Sculpture Project, so in the summer you can enjoy views of London while being surrounded by sculpture — Del Boy's Robin Reliant proved a great hit. The bar itself is designed by Paloma Gormley and has a tent-like feel but incorporates concrete so that it really feels an integral part of the car park. There's a slightly apocalyptic feel to it on a hot summer night when it starts to get dark.

A place I like to escape

I get to be at home by myself for most of the day so I shouldn't really need to escape but my head is always full with the things I have to get done, so when I feel the need to get out I go running — I try to run every day around the Rye and down towards Dulwich Park.

My secret shop

Colour makes people happy. Paint, lighting, artwork — it cheers me up just passing it. Sparkle & Spin in East Dulwich is best known for its Scandinavian children's clothing lines but also does great little pieces for the home (sparkleandspin.co.uk).

Most coveted design object

I would really like a couple of the silver riding elephants by Moroccan design company Zid Zid Kids and one large Donna Wilson Frank Zig Zag design pouffe.

Best London market

Brixton Village Market — it still has a feel of somewhere put together locally and used by locals. It has not turned into a theme park for tourists just yet!

Favourite London museum

The Horniman Museum in Forest Hill — it's one I went to as a child on school trips and I mainly remember the insect room. I returned as an art student and now visit with my two younger children who love the aquarium. I go back there when I want to draw — the stuffed animal room is fantastic with everything from a very fat walrus to a wall of stuffed dogs' heads.

Simeon Farrar T-shirts
Natasha tips Simeon Farrar, a fine artist now exploring textiles and producing witty, irreverent T-shirts

Most interesting new designer

Simeon Farrar. He is a fine artist who has taken his painting into textiles and design, finishing many of his pieces by hand. He is a very inspiring example of how artists shouldn't feel the need to restrict themselves (simeonfarrar.com). I also love Lucy McKenzie, a young Scottish artist with a growing international following.

* Natasha Law and restaurant chain Zizzi have teamed up to find a Fresh Talent artist who will win the opportunity to have their design printed on the restaurant's plates and sold. Visit zizzi.co.uk/freshtalentsearch to find out more.
