Spruce up your front door
Give the front of your house a new lease of life
Your front door is one of the first things people notice about your home, so it is vital it makes a good impression. If your door is looking tired, now is the time to get it back in tip-top condition, and with new ranges of wood treatments available, it couldn’t be easier.
Follow these tips from the Woodshield experts at Sadolin.
Previously treated surfaces
1. Wash down the surface with soapy water. If the dirt is engrained, scrub with a stiff brush. Allow to dry thoroughly.
2. Remove any loose or flaking coating using a scraper or sandpaper.
3. Sand lightly to create a ‘key’ for the new coating to adhere to.
New or bare wood
1. Timber exposed to the weather for four weeks or more should be sanded back to a clean, bright surface.
2. Degrease the surface using a cloth dampened with methylated spirit.
Then
1. Stir the product well and, using a synthetic brush, apply in flowing strokes.
2. Avoid over-brushing as this will result in brush marks and reduced protection.
3. Allow to dry, and if the grain has raised, sand lightly.
4. Apply a second coat.
