Sotheby's Design sale: lighting becomes high art

Lighting isn’t often seen as high art, but Sotheby’s Design sale on November 4 features ground-breaking post-war and contemporary pieces by some of the most influential designers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

With 81 works by the brightest names, from France’s Jean Prouvé and Philippe Hiquily to Danish master Poul Henningsen, the lighting section glitters with brilliance. The furniture section of the sale also has some rare standout pieces by London-based Thomas Heatherwick and Brazilian brothers Humberto and Fernando Campana.

Don’t expect bargains, just go to be dazzled and inspired — it’s free to look, and you will be welcomed.
