Graduate property surveyor Tim Lowe carried out a rental road test across London over a four-month period. Every property had to be in London's Zone 2 and his budget - all in - was to spend less than £500 a month on rent. A windowless Hampstead office block was his first billet, before shared living at The Camden Collective, then a canal boat in Hackney, and a flat-pack home in Wimbledon.
