Love Island aired its most dramatic recoupling of the series on Wednesday (January 29) night and viewers were left truly stunned by the shock twist.

A fan favourite from day one, Leanne Amaning had been touted by many - including former Islanders - as one of the cast mates most likely to make it to the final.

But having (slightly brutally, it must be said) dumped Mike Boateng, the 22-year-old found herself booted out of the villa.

Her exit came in a recoupling which concluded with Mike choosing to couple up with Sophie Piper instead of Leanne, who he had been paired with from the start.

The slight hysteria is perhaps partially down to the fact there’s been a distinct lack of drama this series, but nevertheless, the twist had us all… heading straight for social media.

At last, Love Island Twitter had something juicy to discuss…

As soon as the recoupling was announced, viewers were worried about how the boys would choose:

And the two ladies who (rightly) guessed they were in danger kicked into action:

Then it happened. Mike sent Leanne home.

And the verdicts on the shock events poured in - with many viewers siding with Mike:

It's not an action-packed episode until someone uses this Anton screenshot as a meme:

And we love a sports-meets-Love Island crossover:

The one thing we can all agree on? We just love the drama, Mick.

The preview for Thursday (January 30) night's episode revealed the action is far from over.

Tomorrow's show will chart the fallout from the recoupling and the sneak peek teased Sophie's tears over Shaugna Phillips' criticism of desire to stay.

Meanwhile, Mike will crack on with Jess Gale - and face one final showdown with Leanne.

Love Island airs daily, apart from Saturdays, on ITV2 at 9pm.
