Jennifer Saunders has co-written a brand new Mamma Mia! sketch for Red Nose Day 2019, inspired by hit sequel Here We Go Again.
The much-loved comedian first parodied Meryl Streep’s Donna in a hilarious Comic Relief skit in 2009.
The 60-year-old is now set to recreate the most memorable song and dance moments from last summer’s box office smash in her inimitable style.
“If I could have lived on the fake Mamma Mia set for the last year, I would have been very happy. So I am very, very, very happy to be back,” Saunders said.
“This is undoubtedly one of the silliest things I’ve done. But my god I enjoy it so much.”
She will be joined by Alan Carr, who will play Colin Firth’s character Harry, and Philip Glenister, who plays Pierce Brosnan’s Sam, with more cast members set to be revealed soon.
Miranda Hart and Sue Perkins will also return as producer and director, while screenwriter Richard Curtis collaborated with Saunders on the script.
In a behind-the-scenes clip shared by the BBC, Carr gave fans a brief teaser of what to expect from the parody, as he joked: “No, I’m not hosting A Place In The Sun.
“I’m on the set of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Well, not the actual film, it’s a spoof of it.”
He promised viewers that the short film is “gonna be so much fun.”
This year’s Comic Relief special will also see the cast of Four Weddings and a Funeral reunite for the first time in 25 years for One Red Nose Day and a Wedding, which has also been written by Curtis.
Hugh Grant and Andie Macdowell are set to reprise their famous roles of Charles and Carrie, while Lily James will reportedly play Grant’s daughter.
Red Nose Day 2019 will air on BBC One on March 15.
