‘A Fyre Festival special!’ Love Island viewers left horrified by Tommy’s ‘absolutely abysmal’ cheese sandwich

Tommy's unappetising creation prompted comparisons with the infamous Fyre Festival cheese sandwich

Love Island fans were outraged by Tommy Fury’s lacklustre ‘cooking’ skills as he attempted to impress new islander Maura with a cheese sandwich drenched in tomato ketchup and mayonnaise.

Last night’s episode saw new bombshells Maura and Elma arrive at the villa, after choosing which three boys they’d each like to cook them a starter, main course and dessert.

Tommy, who has previously admitted that he is unable to make a cup of tea, was selected to provide a starter for Maura.

The boxer opted to throw pre-cut slices of cheese onto pieces of white bread, before cutting out another heart-shaped piece of cheese and putting it pride of place in the centre.

As a finishing touch, he outlined the heart with plenty of tomato ketchup and mayonnaise.

Viewers were quick to voice their disgust at the aesthetically appealing creation, with many pointing out the undeniable parallels between Tommy’s starter and the infamous cheese sandwich served at Fyre Festival.

“Judging by the state of Tommy’s creation for his date, I’m beginning to wonder if he was behind that #FyreFestival cheese sandwich,” one fan wrote on Twitter, while another pointed out: “Tommy’s starter looking like the Fyre Fest sandwich.”

One Twitter user described the dubious starter as “a Fyre Festival special,” while another suggested that Fyre Festival co-founder Ja Rule would be “calling him up for his next venture.”

The sandwich was branded “absolutely abysmal” and “a monstrous creation” by yet more viewers, while others pointed out that Tommy should have asked fellow islander and sandwich specialist Joe for his top tips.

“I think Tommy should have got Joe to make it for him instead,” one comment read, while another agreed that “Joe needs to teach Tommy how to make a proper sandwich.”

Some even suggested that the snack should have been a red flag for Tommy’s date, with one fan writing: “If a man makes you anything remotely like Tommy’s starter, he’s not that man for you.”

Others pointed out that the best could be yet to come, as tonight’s episode will see Tommy putting together a dessert for Elma.

“Can’t wait till 9 to see what Tommy has made his date for dessert!” one fan sarcastically wrote. “If his starter is anything to go by she’s in for a treat.”
