Virtually famous: The Blaze

Occasionally a music video comes along for which YouTube is too small a medium. French cousins Guillaume and Jonathan Alric have now made three.

They’re electronic musicians and directors who create both sounds and visuals at the same time.

The films tend to show the power of dancing transcending personal circumstances, particularly on last summer’s Territory, in which an immigrant returns home to his family after a long spell away. In a surprise announcement, it was given the Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, which generally rewards innovation in advertising.

There’s a melancholy to the music, with its deep, digitally altered vocals, as well as the emotional acting.

Combined, they can move the heart as well as the feet. Heaven, with its multicultural updating of Manet’s Dejeuner sur l’herbe, completed a trilogy of films two months ago. Now the pair are becoming a live act, booked to appear at London’s Lovebox festival in the summer.

They should make good use of the big screens.
