Tottenham 'not big enough' for Van Bommel

Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel today revealed why he snubbed Tottenham in favour of a three-year contract with Spanish champions Barcelona.

Van Bommel rejected the overtures of coach Martin Jol despite at one stage last season claiming he wanted to move to north London.

"Spurs play good football and have a good trainer but at the moment they are not a big enough club," van Bommel said.

"I may have joined had there been no interest from bigger clubs."
