Real look to dump Macca

England World Cup reject Steve McManaman is up for sale at Real Madrid for just £4million.

However, the former Liverpool star's sky-high wages are putting off interested Premiership clubs - headed by Double winners Arsenal.

McManaman, 30, will be allowed to leave Real, who are slashing their payroll after years of big spending.

The fee being sought is low because McManaman was a free agent when he left Anfield and the only way of moving him on is to cut the price.

Arsenal want someone to fill in for the injured Robert Pires but have checked out McManaman's pay packet and found he makes around £4m a year. McManaman's tax position means any British side would have to find almost £100,000 a week to match those terms for the unpredictable winger.

Several agents are working on finding a buyer and one said: 'Real may have to give Macca away for nothing to get him out. His wages are astronomical.'

Injured Liverpool midfielders Steven Gerrard and Danny Murphy will be fit for pre-season training on July 10.
