Players on the PGA Tour have been informed they face a barrage of testing ahead of the tour’s proposed return in Texas from June 11.

The tour has been on lockdown since mid-March but is poised for a comeback with the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth.

But players hoping to take part – and their caddies – will have to undergo a pre-travel screening test at home before being tested on arrival at the tournament site.

Anyone refusing testing will be barred from playing.

Players will be confined to one or two hotels with tournament officials to reduce the risk of any virus spread, and be isolated for 10 days should any test come back positive.

The return-to-golf rules are laid out in a 37-page document sent to players.

World no10 Tommy Fleetwood has already said he is unlikely to be at Colonial for the first tournament or take any part in the immediate PGA Tour events.

Under quarantine rules, it would make more sense for him to stay in the US until September - something he does not want to do with a young family.

“I’m not going to travel to America and stay away for four months,” he told the Daily Mail. “That is simply not a consideration.

"One ideal scenarios is we all spend the summer as a family in America, but we’ll have to talk it through and see if the boys want to be away after such a strange year.”
