Injured Davies and Redknapp still wait

Tottenham are still no closer to knowing when long-term injury victims Jamie Redknapp and Simon Davies will be back in action.

Spurs today confirmed that club captain Redknapp had undergone another operation on his knee in America. He has been out since September's 3-1 home defeat by Southampton - Glenn Hoddle's last game in charge.

The club claimed last month that Redknapp was only two or three weeks away from a return but that has proved over-optimistic. Davies, who the club also claimed would return to action soon, has been out for most of the season with a hip complaint sustained when kicking a ball in training.

Caretaker manager David Pleat said: "Jamie had a simple operation to clean out the knee and the surgeon gave him an extremely optimistic report. He is now back working hard in rehabilitation.

"Simon did well in what was a light session yesterday and he, too, now faces an intense course of fitness work. But it was encouraging to see him back out there again with the rest of the group. No target has been set for either player's comeback because that would add to the pressure. But both are looking good and we will assess them daily before talking about individual timings in term of a return."

Meanwhile, Dynamo Kiev midfielder Jerko Leko claims Spurs want to sign him but the Croatian international says he will stay in the Ukraine until next summer because the White Hart Lane club are not big enough.

Leko's performances for Kiev in the Champions League this season have caught the attention-of teams from across Europe. The 23-year-old joined Kiev for £2.8million from Dinamo Zagreb last season and it is claimed Spurs are among the clubs interested in him.

Leko said: "I have received a call from Tottenham. According to my agent, they are ready to pay nine million euros (£6.34m). But I would prefer to stay at Dynamo.

"Maybe next summer I will move but not now when we are fighting to advance in the Champions League.

"Tottenham are not Milan or Manchester United so it would be more reasonable to stay in Kiev."
