Ange Postecoglou appeared to play down any serious injury concerns after Micky van de Ven was forced off during Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Spurs cut the gap on Unai Emery’s side in fourth place to just two points after turning on the style in the second-half and ultimately running out 4-0 winners.

After a cagey opening 45 minutes, the game was turned on its head just after the break. Van de Ven was forced off in the opening exchanges after the interval before James Maddison and Brennan Johnson scored quick-fire goals to give Spurs a commanding lead.

Villa’s frustrations ultimately boiled over and captain John McGinn was sent off for a wild challenge on Destiny Udogie. Spurs made the advantage count in stoppage time with Heung-min Son and Timo Werner adding to their tally.

Van de Ven has been a crucial part of Postecoglou’s team this season and already missed more than two months of action with a hamstring injury suffered in November.

“I’m not sure, he doesn’t think it’s anything too significant,” said the Spurs boss.

“So disappointing for him because he was outstanding again up until that point. Great for Radu [Dragusin] to come in, his first significant game-time in a big game and I thought he handled it really well.”

Spurs also boast a game in hand over Villa and are back in action away at Fulham on Saturday before the international break.
