Tottenham still hope to seal a sensational move for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.

Juve are open to cashing in on the Argentina international as they look to raise transfer funds and free up space on their wage bill.

There are obstacles to overcome ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline but Spurs remain hopeful over a deal that could see them break their transfer record for the second time this summer.

Here’s what we know so far…

Who wants to sign him?

Manchester United had hoped to sign the 25-year-old and held talks with Juventus over a deal that would have seen Romelu Lukaku move in the other direction.

United ended those discussions however amid concerns over his true desire to join the club.

It’s believed wage demands and excessive agent fees led Solskjær to believe the Argentina international was joining for the wrong reasons.

Spurs have also been weighing up a move for Dybala for a number of weeks.

Is a deal close?

Not quite.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of his compatriot, describing him as among ‘the best in the world’ before Dybala dumped Spurs out of the Champions League in the last-16 two years ago.

Wages could be an issue. The 25-year-old striker is thought to earn close to £300,000-a-week after tax and his exorbitant wage demands, as well as high agent fees and a complicated image rights arrangement, are making the transfer difficult, particularly given the tight timeframe.

How much will he cost?

Spurs are relaxed about settling on a fee in the region of £65m with Juventus.

Will it affect the Lo Celso deal?

Spurs remain in talks with Real Betis for playmaker Giovani Lo Celso, who has a release clause of £88m. Talks between Spurs and Real Betis have hit an impasse over a fee however, with a move depending on a 11th-hour compromise from Levy, Betis or both.

Is he good enough?

Despite that disappointing return of five goals last season, Dybala is still regarded as one of the best forwards in Serie A having shone for the Bianconeri on the biggest stage.

Dybala scored the goal that dumped Spurs out of the Champions League at the round of 16 stage during the 2017-18 season, scoring twice against Barcelona in the previous stage as Juve reached the final.

Dybala can also play at No.10 and wide and his versatility appeals to Pochettino.
