Jose Mourinho says Oliver Skipp could be a future Tottenham captain.

Skipp, 19, agreed a new deal until 2024 on Friday and Mourinho revealed the youngster is likely to go out on loan next season.

But the Spurs manager described the England U-21 midfielder as "Tottenham's future" and said he has the personality to one day captain the club.

"I'm really happy," Mourinho said. "Everybody in the club is, his team-mates are, I am and Skippy is or not he wouldn't sign the contract. I think he's genuinely Tottenham's future.

"He's one of these players by human quality, by personality, he is one of these kids that I have no doubt he will be an important player for Tottenham.

"Sometimes coaches are selfish and I told him that. I never told him I want him to go on loan, I always told him I wanted him to stay here because that's the selfish perspective of a coach who wants the best possible squad.

"In his mind he wants to go on loan, [for] six months, the whole season. He feels that he needs that, I also feel that would be good for his evolution, so maybe that is the direction we go. I think he can be more than a player, he can be a future captain here. Hugo, Harry.

"I see this kid being one day a future captain here by his character, by his personality. I feel really happy that he signed."

Mourinho will be without Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele (both hamstring) for Sunday's visit of Leicester but revealed that Serge Aurier could feature, despite travelling to France on compassionate leave on Thursday.

Aurier played 90 minutes in Wednesday's 3-1 win at Newcastle following the death of his brother, Christopher, in the early hours of Monday morning.

"Let's see, let's wait," Mourinho said on Friday. "If he comes back tonight to train [Saturday] morning he will be available. He did it in very difficult circumstances against Newcastle. Now he goes to France, to see family, comes back.

"Let's see. It'll be always Serge's decision, it'll be him opening his heart and let us understand his conditions."
