Spain's health minister Salvador Illa has warned that football is unlikely to return in the country before the summer.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas met with Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) chief Luis Rubiales last week to discuss a return to training, subject to advice from health authorities, after more than a month of inactivity due to coronavirus.

But speaking in a press conference on Sunday, Illa said: "I can't say that football will restart before the summer. To do so would be reckless on my behalf."

"A Health Ministry order remains in place for all collectives, including football. We must all row in the same direction."

Illa also went on to add that football, like everyday life, will probably not return to normal until a vaccine is in place for Covid-19.

"We will have to keep seeing how things evolve, to analyse how the different professional activities can return," he said. "Things will not be like before. Until there is a vaccine, we must learn to live with this virus which, I insist, is dangerous and must be respected."
