Zinedine Zidane: Real Madrid winning LaLiga makes me happier than Champions League hat-trick

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane says he is happier to win LaLiga than he was when Los Blancos claimed the Champions League for three seasons in a row.

Zidane's side defeated Villarreal 2-1 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Thursday to claim the title with one round remaining ahead of rivals Barcelona, beaten by the same scoreline at home to Osasuna.

"The Champions League is the Champions League, but this league makes me happier," the Frenchman told Movistar+. "Because LaLiga is amazing."

Madrid trailed Barca by two points when LaLiga was interrupted by coronavirus in March, but Los Blancos have won 10 out of 10 matches in an impeccable run since the restart last month.

"We won more points than the rest and we did it," Zidane said. "Today is one of the best days I have experienced professionally. Because it's a league title, and after the confinement. Impressive."

Real won the title at home, albeit with no fans present due to the health protocols following the pandemic, and the players will not be able to celebrate at Cibeles as they usually do after claiming a major trophy.

"It's strange for everyone," Zidane said. "But we can't control it. We would like to have been at Cibeles, but we can't because of a question of health.

"The fans are at home and they are happy to see their team win LaLiga again."
