Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United have not yet seen the best of Paul Pogba, who he expects to emerge as a key leader at Old Trafford in the coming years.

The Frenchman had made just eight appearances in all competitions in 2019/20 prior to football's coronavirus shutdown, but has been in scintillating form following the restart, forming a pivotal partnership with January signing Bruno Fernandes.

Though it was a pair of ankle injuries that kept Pogba sidelined, the 27-year-old was also being heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

But with his return to form and fitness, the midfielder will now play an important role as United search for Europa League glory.

While Pogba has shown displays akin to those promised by his £89million 2016 transfer fee, Solskjaer believes he is only now entering the prime of his career.

“What Paul said, was said before. Since coming back from injury [he] has been a delight," Solskjaer said, as reported by The Mirror.

“He has worked really hard, he is happy and he is playing well. We are going to see the best of Paul in the next couple of seasons, I’m sure. And I’m looking forward to seeing him grow with this team.

“He will have to be one of the leaders, one of the main figures, because he is just coming to his peak time as a footballer at 27.

“I am really looking forward to working with him.”

Pogba has just 10 months remaining on his current United deal, though there is the option of a one-year extension.

Solskjaer clearly sees the Frenchman in his long-term plans, however, with the club reportedly to open talks over a new contract in the coming weeks.
