Barcelona reveal transfer plans for Lionel Messi, Neymar and Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has laid out the club's plans for Lionel Messi, Neymar and Lautaro Martinez.

Barca sacked Quique Setien on Monday following their humiliating 8-2 Champions League quarter-final exit to Bayern Munich last week, with Ronald Koeman set to become the new head coach.

The 2019/20 season was a disaster for Barca given they lost their LaLiga crown to fierce rivals Real Madrid, despite returning from the shutdown leading the Spanish title race.

Bartomeu promised big changes behind the scenes, with Setien removed from his post on Monday before Eric Abidal departed as sporting director on Tuesday.

There could also be changes on the pitch, though Barca are hamstrung by the need to reduce huge player wages along with their finances having been hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

Messi's future has been in question in recent months, and the shocking defeat to Bayern intensified rumours that the Argentine may finally be ready to leave Camp Nou.

However, club president Bartomeu confirmed on Tuesday evening that incoming boss Koeman sees Messi as a key player in his side going forward.

Speaking to the club's in-house media team, Bartomeu said: "I have spoken with Koeman and the pillar of our project is Messi.

"He has a contract until 2021, I speak a lot with Leo and more regularly with his father.

"He is number one in the world. There is no doubt that in Koeman's new project you can count on Messi."

Barca have been looking for a way to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou since last summer, though Bartomeu suggests there is little prospect of re-signing the Brazilian: "Neymar back to Barcelona? PSG don’t want to sell him on this summer."

As for Inter Milan stat Lautaro Martinez, Bartomeu added: "We’re not in talks... right now, we’ve stopped the negotiations with Inter at the end of June. We’ll see what will happen."

Bartomeu has hinted a full squad overhaul could also be on the cards, adding: "The renewal will be as deep as necessary.

"It was I who decided to give this generation the opportunity for another year. Maybe it was time to start the renovation last year."
