West Ham midfielder Declan Rice says England have set their sights on becoming the number one ranked team in the world after beating Belgium.

The Three Lions came from behind to beat Roberto Martinez’s side on Sunday, with Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount cancelling out Romelu Lukaku’s penalty.

The win was viewed as a major scalp for England as they defeated world number one side Belgium and ended their 13-game unbeaten run, which stretches back nearly two years.

Rice believes England have laid down a marker with their victory, which also moved them top of Nations League Group A2, and they want to become the world number one themselves in the future.

“When you're at international level like this, you want to test yourself against the best,” he said.

“They had world-class players all over the pitch and obviously a couple of missing, but it was a great test.

“Right towards the end there we were digging in deep. They were putting the pressure on but we stood firm, stood tall and at times we played some great stuff, obviously scored two goals.

“To beat them, the lads are delighted for sure. Look, we knew before the game that they’re the number one team in the world and that’s where we’re aiming to be.

“With the side that we had as well, we matched them up and we put in a great performance.

“This is the mentality we need to get ourselves into, like you just said, heading into tournaments because there’s going to be games where we will be pinned back, where we need to show the grit, desire to come out on top and give 110 per cent every time.”
