Bayern Munich today announced a raft of initiatives to assist the Syrian refugees entering Germany.

The Bundesliga champions said it was their' social reponsibility' to help alleviate the crisis caused by Europe's greatest postwar migration.

Germany's wealthiest football club will open a training camp to provide refugee children with training facilities, meals and German language classes.

The club also pledged to donate one million euros to 'refugee projects'.

Bayern Munich chairman: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “Bayern sees it as our social responsibility to help the refugees, needy children, women and men, to help them and to accompany them in Germany.”

The club will also look ' to set an example for the integration of refugees' at Bayern's next home game by having each player walk onto the pitch holding the hand of one German child and one refugee child each.

More than four million refugees have fled Syria since war broke out there in 2011, while German chancellor Angela Merkel said this week that Germany could receive more than a million this year alone.

Bundesliga clubs and supporter groups have led the way in promoting support for refugees.

Many have held aloft 'refugees welcome' banners while Borussia Dortmund invited a group of 220 refugees to their Europa League qualifier last week.
