Emiliano Martinez has set his sights on becoming both Arsenal and Argentina no1 next season.

The goalkeeper got a taste of an extended run in the first team at Arsenal last season after he came in for the injured Bernd Leno.

Martinez excelled as the new no1 and played a pivotal role as the Gunners won their 14th FA Cup.

Leno is now back from injury and manager Mikel Arteta faces a decision about who will be his first-choice goalkeeper for the new season.

Asked on The Big Interview podcast what his aims are, Martinez said: “Obviously [to] be Arsenal no1 and Argentina no1 for the Copa America.”

Martinez also has aspirations to play at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where a 33-year-old Lionel Messi will likely get one final crack at lifting the trophy.

And asked if he could help Messi win the World Cup, Martinez replied: “I hope so.

“I will work my life for him. I will do everything for him. So if he really needs that, I will work.”
