Blues call for UEFA peace meeting

Chelsea are considering calling a peace summit with UEFA after referee Anders Frisk quit amid claims he had received death threats from the club's fans.

Relations between the Premiership leaders and European football's governing body are at an all-time low today after the latest twist in their row over the weekend.

Yesterday, manager Jose Mourinho was labelled an "enemy of football" by UEFA's refereeing chief Volker Roth for his attack on Frisk after the first leg of his side's Champions League tie with Barcelona.

UEFA are also still fuming at the way Mourinho tried to influence their decision to appoint Pierluigi Collina for last week's second leg.

Chelsea are understood to regret what has happened to Frisk since the game in Barcelona last month.

They are considering making a statement condemning the behaviour of the fans who have targeted the Swedish referee.

And they will push for an urgent meeting between chief executive Peter Kenyon and top UEFA officials in an effort to draw a line under the affair.

The meeting could take place at Friday's Champions League quarterfinal draw in Switzerland.
